Add or remove licenses
When your team grows or shrinks, the licence count on a Mercurie-billed
subscription changes from the Mercurie dashboard — not from
admin.google.com. Google's reseller system locks seat-count changes to
the partner so the next invoice can be re-prorated correctly.
Increase licenses (add seats)
- Sign in to mercurie.ng and open the dashboard.
- From the sidebar, open Subscriptions and click the Workspace subscription you want to expand.
- On the subscription detail page, click Increase License (top right). This is the same button screenshotted in the Getting Started → Dashboard tour.
- Enter the new total seat count (not the increment) — e.g. if you
have 3 seats and want to add 2, enter
5. The form previews:- The pro-rated charge for the rest of the current billing period.
- The new monthly/annual amount from the next renewal.
- Click Confirm. The seats are provisioned in Google Admin within a minute and the corresponding invoice appears under Invoice History on the same page.
The new users can be created in admin.google.com as soon as the seats
are live.
Reduce licenses (remove seats)
Workspace seat reductions follow Google's commitment-aware rules:
- Annual plan, yearly payment — seats can only be reduced at the renewal date. Open a support ticket before the renewal and we'll schedule the change.
- Annual plan, monthly payment — seat reductions take effect from the next monthly cycle but the reduced count is locked until renewal.
- Flexible plan — reduce any time from the dashboard; the next invoice is pro-rated.
For Annual plans, removing seats outside the allowed window requires either:
- Waiting for renewal, or
- Suspending or deleting unused user accounts in
admin.google.com(you stop paying for new assignments to those seats but the seat count itself stays until renewal).
Common errors
"New license paid for but not reflecting on dashboard." (Reported by Octagram Energy, Nov 2025.) If the Increase License flow returned a success page but the seat count hasn't updated within 5 minutes, refresh the subscription page once and check Invoice History for the new invoice line. If the invoice is there but the count is still old, open a support ticket — we re-sync the count from Google's reseller console manually in seconds.
"Inability to purchase additional licences." (Reported by ConstructAfrica, Nov 2025.) If clicking Increase License returns an error before the form even opens, the most common causes are:
- The subscription is currently suspended — see Reactivate a suspended subscription.
- The subscription is mid-transfer between resellers and Google has temporarily locked seat changes.
- A previous order timed out and is still pending. Refresh the page; if the error persists, open a support ticket.
"Exceeded pooled storage limits after downgrade." (Reported by ConstructAfrica, Nov 2025.) Downgrading the plan tier (e.g. Business Standard → Business Starter) reduces total pooled storage. If your existing Drive/Gmail data exceeds the new pool, Google locks new uploads until you either:
- Upgrade back to the higher tier, or
- Delete enough data to fit under the new pool.
This is a Google enforcement, not a Mercurie one — we can't override the storage cap, but we can help you re-upgrade quickly without an extra commitment cycle if you need a workout window.
When to use Google Admin instead
For everything below the licence count — creating the actual user accounts that consume seats, assigning licences to specific users, adding a user to a group — open admin.google.com directly. Mercurie only controls the count of paid seats; the assignment is your super-admin's call inside Google Admin.
